Marianne Vedeler, ‘Silk for the Vikings’, 2014
Deze viel afgelopen week hier op de mat, heerlijk, heerlijk.
Vedeler, verbonden aan de Universiteit van Oslo en het Museum of Cultural History in datzelfde Oslo, legt de focus op de 9de en 10de eeuw, Scandinavie. De vondsten van het Oseberg schip zijn startpunt, maar daar blijft het niet bij, andere zijde vondsten komen ook aan bod. Er zijn best een aantal zijde vondsten gedaan, allemaal oorspronkelijk uit Byzantium of Centraal Azie, wat inderdaad een hoop vragen oplevert rondom handelsroutes, productie en de sociale rol van zijde als handelswaar of als kado…. Interessante stof!
